Clockwork Research

EASA-compliant FRM training

Clockwork provides EASA-compliant FRM training to enable European commercial aviation operators to meet their regulatory responsibilities for managing crew fatigue.

In January 2014, EASA (the European Aviation Safety Agency) published new rules that require commercial air transport operators to take a more scientific approach to the management of crew fatigue. These rules came into force in February 2015.

A key part of the rules (AMC1.ORO.FTL.250) is the requirement for operators to provide initial and recurrent fatigue management training to crew members, personnel responsible for preparation and maintenance of crew rosters and management personnel concerned.”

To help operators meet their responsibilities and achieve compliance with the EASA regulations, Clockwork Research has developed a comprehensive programme of training for these groups. The training programme begins with a briefing session for senior management, to raise their awareness of fatigue and their responsibilities for managing crew fatigue. Subsequent training sessions are provided for the safety team, office personnel (e.g. crew planning/rostering) and CRM instructors.

As part of this service Clockwork Research provides the operator with a report summarising the training that has been provided, certificates for all attendees and copies of the training material.

Fatigue risk management regulations are due to extend to other parts of the aviation industry in time, and Clockwork Research is able to offer relevant compliant training to sectors such as Air Traffic Control, HEMS and maintenance operations.

Titan Airways engaged with Clockwork to assist in the development of training to meet both the regulatory needs of EASA-FTL and the unique fatigue management challenges that we face in an ad-hoc operating environment. Clockwork’s approach to the task was methodical and also sympathetic to the diverse operation types we have. The communication from the Clockwork team was excellent throughout the project including ongoing support after release. The final training product truly combined the theoretical and practical aspects of fatigue management with the Titan operating environment and ethos.open quote

We have been working closely with Clockwork since 2013. They have been instrumental in the airline successfully setting up an effective fatigue programme, through an in-depth analysis of the airlines operations and produced excellent training materials to improve the crew understanding of fatigue. The staff at Clockwork are extremely knowledgeable and professional, making it easy to achieve good results in reducing the risks associated with fatigue in our very complex environment.open quote
