Clockwork Research

In order to be able to oversee and assess the FRMS submissions and applications presented by operators, regulators need to be equipped with the necessary understanding of Fatigue Risk Management Systems.

As well as supporting organisations around the world with their training needs, Clockwork Research also offers a comprehensive range of training products to meet the varying levels of knowledge and experience of national regulatory authorities.

In order to oversee and assess FRMS and scientific safety case applications, regulators need to be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills.

Our courses are designed to assist regulatory authorities that are looking to introduce FRMS regulations, to enable inspectors to understand FRMS applications submitted by operators, as well as the data that accompanies these submissions, and to be able to distinguish acceptable and not acceptable practice.

Regulators will gain an understanding of all of the elements of an FRMS, including examples of the the data collection tools used by operators, such as biomathematical models, surveys and reporting systems.

Typical course topics include:

  • Introduction to Fatigue Risk Management
  • The science of sleep, fatigue and alertness management
  • Operational practices, roster features and their contribution to fatigue
  • Implementing a FRMS
  • Identification of hazards
  • Safety assurance and promotion processes
  • Use of the ICAO FRMS evaluation tool
  • Safety cases.

Titan Airways engaged with Clockwork to assist in the development of training to meet both the regulatory needs of EASA-FTL and the unique fatigue management challenges that we face in an ad-hoc operating environment. Clockwork’s approach to the task was methodical and also sympathetic to the diverse operation types we have. The communication from the Clockwork team was excellent throughout the project including ongoing support after release. The final training product truly combined the theoretical and practical aspects of fatigue management with the Titan operating environment and ethos.open quote

We have been working closely with Clockwork since 2013. They have been instrumental in the airline successfully setting up an effective fatigue programme, through an in-depth analysis of the airlines operations and produced excellent training materials to improve the crew understanding of fatigue. The staff at Clockwork are extremely knowledgeable and professional, making it easy to achieve good results in reducing the risks associated with fatigue in our very complex environment.open quote

Luxair has built a strong link to Clockwork over the past years. Not only did they help us to develop successful fatigue surveys with our cabin and cockpit crews but they also played a major role in the development of our fatigue reporting, our FRMS training and the analysis of our scheduling practices. Clockwork's staff were always open to our ideas/thoughts and with their professionalism and dedication helped us achieve our goal of mitigating fatigue related risks through our SMS.open quote
