Clockwork/TRL win contract to analyse HM Coroners’ toxicology data
A team comprised of scientists from the Transport Research Laboratory and Clockwork Research has been awarded the Department for Transport contract to collect and analyse toxicology data provided by HM Coroners in England and Wales and Procurators Fiscal in Scotland, in cases where road accident fatalities have tested positive for drugs or alcohol.
TRL has for many years collected and analysed alcohol data relating to road accident fatalities. However, following work conducted by Clockwork’s Dr Paul Jackson and Cassie Hilditch, which revealed that HM Coroners would be willing to provide toxicology in addition to alcohol data, DfT decided to launch a project to extend this data collection to cover drugs. Following an open competition, which attracted interest from a number of research companies, the contract was awarded to the TRL/Clockwork team.
Clockwork’s managing director, Dr Paul Jackson, will be Technical Director on the 3-year project.
