Managing fatigue in Peru

The Clockwork Research fatigue auditing team has completed a 2-week project in Peru, where they conducted a fatigue risk site assessment at the Yanacocha gold mining operation in the Cajamarca region in the north of the country.

Dr Paul Jackson and Dr Katharina Lederle were invited to undertake the assessment by Newmont South America Region, part of the Newmont Mining Company. The assessment, which took place at the Yanacocha site – the second largest gold mine in the world, involved conducting interviews with management, supervisors and operatives working in various parts of the operation, and the development of a fatigue management plan for the site management to implement.

A key feature of the work was the assessment of the site’s compliance against the Newmont Standard on Fatigue Risk Management.

The project is part of a major fatigue management initiative by the Denver, Colorado-based mining company. Clockwork Research has already completed similar assessments at Newmont operations in Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand and Africa.
